Longbox — Privacy Policy
Effective date: 16 August 2026
Longbox (“the app”) is a reader for comics and manga hosted on a Komga server that you
run and control. This policy explains what data the app handles and who it is shared with.
Who we are — and what we don’t do
Longbox is developed by Studio 6-1 (“we”, “us”). We do not operate any servers of our own, and
we do not receive, store, or have access to your account, credentials, or reading content. The app
communicates directly with the Komga server you configure and with Google’s services described below.
Data the app handles
On your device and your own server
- Server address and credentials. The address of your Komga server and your
sign-in details are stored encrypted on your device (using Android
Keystore–backed encrypted storage) and are sent only to the Komga server you
specify, in order to sign you in. We never receive them. Note: if you
configure a plain
http:// (non-HTTPS) server address, that connection is not
encrypted in transit — prefer https:// where your server supports it.
- Reading progress and activity. Your reading position and progress are synced
to your Komga server, not to us.
- Downloaded comics. Comics you download for offline reading are stored locally
on your device and can be deleted from within the app.
- On-device processing. Optional “guided view” panel detection runs entirely on
your device; page images are never uploaded for this feature.
Optional cross-device sync (your Google Drive)
If you turn on Automatic sync (a setting that is off by default),
Longbox saves a small settings file to the hidden, per-app “app data” folder of your own
Google Drive (using Google’s drive.appdata permission), so the settings you
chose to sync stay in step across your devices.
- It contains only the app settings you selected — per-series reader mode, manual
guided-view panel layouts, reader navigation toggles, and smart-download opt-ins. It does
not contain your comics, your reading content, or your Komga credentials.
- Longbox can access only its own app-data folder — never your other Google Drive
files.
- The file lives in your Google account; we never receive it. You can turn sync
off at any time, and delete the stored data from Google Drive → Settings → Manage
apps.
Shared with Google (ads and purchases)
- Advertising — Google AdMob. The free version of Longbox shows ads through
Google AdMob. To serve ads, Google’s Mobile Ads SDK collects and processes device and usage
information — which may include your device’s advertising identifier,
approximate (IP-based) location, and device/diagnostic
information — and Google acts as an independent third party for this data. See Google’s
Privacy Policy and
“How Google uses information
from sites or apps that use our services”.
- Consent (EEA/UK and other applicable regions). Where required, the app
presents a Google-certified consent form before serving personalized ads.
- Removing ads. Purchasing the ad-free option (one-time or subscription)
stops ads and the associated AdMob data collection.
- Purchases — Google Play Billing. Ad-free purchases are processed by Google
Play. We do not receive or store your payment details. See Google Play’s terms and privacy
information.
Children
Longbox is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your region).
Data retention and deletion
- On-device data (credentials, downloads, app settings) is removed when you remove the server in
the app or uninstall Longbox.
- Reading progress is stored on your Komga server — manage or delete it there.
- If you used Google Drive sync, the settings file is in your own Google Drive’s hidden app-data
storage; turn sync off and delete it via Google Drive → Settings → Manage apps.
- Your advertising identifier can be reset or limited in your device’s system settings.
- For any questions about data handled by the app, contact us at the address below.
Your rights
Because we do not collect your personal data, requests concerning your library, account, or
reading content should be directed to the operator of your Komga server (typically you). For
advertising data, use the Google controls linked above.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time; the effective date above will be updated accordingly.
